There are many digital camera dealers in India now. Some electronic shops keep stocks of digital cameras along with other electronic items. Besides these, there are exclusive digital camera shops, in all big cities in India and abroad. Digital camera shops keep digital cameras of all leading manufacturing brands, imaging and lens based camera material, camera accessories, lenses, memory cards etc. In other words, most digital camera shops serve as one-stop destination, for the average consumers.

Nowadays, showrooms of various companies and individual camera shops in India stock electronics of various companies, giving the customer an opportunity to compare his buying options under a single roof. Gone are the days when one needed to go from one digital camera or electronic shop to another, to pick their ideal choice.

There are many options and choices these days. However, it is important to pick the correct retailer, so that one is able to avail of a deal which is most suited to his budget and requirement. The rates of digital cameras at shops also tend to vary from country to country. This depends on the foreign exchange value of the country in question, and also the place of manufacture of the camera he chooses - and hence its manufacturing cost.

Digital cameras are relatively expensive products. This is a fact known to one and all. Keeping this in mind, it is not very difficult to fathom how difficult it can become to gain a first hand experience of the camera one intends to buy; before spending a good amount of money on it. The reason for this is basically that retailers don’t consider it safe to let customers handle these cameras physically, unless he or she has bought it - for fear that it might get damaged in the process (and in this way they are quite justified).

In such a case it is very likely that the only personal experience that a prospective buyer is able to derive of his investment, is what the company making it claims and advertises. Therefore it is desirable to get acquainted with someone who already owns a similar product, and is kind enough to let one use it.

There are very few shops that allow an individual to test the digital camera he is considering, and even these, give such privileges only to customers with whom they are well acquainted, and trust to handle their product with care. Also, finding a retailer that will not only grant one the aforementioned privilege, but also give him the digital camera he decides to purchase at a reasonable price, is a very rare phenomenon. Clearly, it is most advisable to choose a retailer one is already familiar with to purchase digital cameras or otherwise, go through an acquaintance who may know a reliable retailer.

When purchasing a digital camera from a shop, issues such as warranty, spare battery, the presence of all accessories that are supposed to come with the camera (given by the manufacturer itself) need to be kept in mind. Also one must make sure that the digital camera being purchased is given in a sealed box (as packaged by the manufacturing company). Ideally one must open the box in front of the retailer himself, make sure all the parts and accessories that the company provides are present and intact inside. In most cases, these will be listed on the box, or on another piece of paper or booklet inside it. Also check, if the company provides you with any free services for the digital camera you have bought and make sure you avail of these.
