Canon EOS 40D

The hugely anticipated Canon EOS 40D is an upgraded version of the 30D and has a completely revamped look and works on a new technology which in turn helps improving the overall performance of the camera. The camera obtains the new technology from the EOS 1D MARK III and also has a higher resolution as compared to 30D.

Canon EOS 40DThe 40D was one of the most awaited cameras and it surely does not disappoint with its rugged looks. It has a 10.megapixel sensor and a 6.5-frame-per-second continuous mode. The camera has dimensions of 144 x 105.5 x 73.5mm and weighs around 740g. Although it is a bit heavier than its predecessor but the shape of the camera is such that it can be gripped with ease. The camera is made out of magnesium alloy while the frame is of stainless steel. A non removable low pass filter is present in front of the image sensor. The camera has a 3.5inch TFT color liquid-crystal monitor which has 100% scene coverage. One can also change the brightness depending on the user’s requirement by choosing from the 7 brightness levels present. The LCD can be viewed from various angles with ease, and Canon has made sure that the photographer can look at the monitor without having to worry about the glare of the sun. Along with the LCD the camera also comes equipped with a view finder having magnification of 0.95x and viewing angle of 264 degrees.

imageThe camera has a live view mode which is an enhanced version when compared to the 1D Mark III. A new feature in the 40D is the addition of the focusing screen. Along with the standard focusing screen, the Ef-D screen and the Ef-S screen is also present. The EOS Integrated Dust Cleaning System is present in the 40D and works well in making sure the sensor remains dust free.

The images produced by the EOS 400 are good. Outdoor shots have sharpness maintained and focusing is handled well near the edges. Colours produced are vibrant and natural. Colour balance is maintained well so is the saturation level. Indoor shots work well and the camera performs exceptionally well while the various ISO sensitivities are in use. Even while taking shots in ISO800 the amount of noise interference is kept to a minimum and the pictures come out clear and sharp.
