Canon Power Shot SD750

The large 3 inch display is one of the many impressive features present in the seven mega pixel SD750. The camera comes equipped with DIGIC III Image Processor which results in faster start up, auto focus and shutter response times, improved image quality and more efficient power consumption.

The camera looks like a piece of art with its elegant design and large LCD it’s a treat for the eyes in more ways than one. The SD750 has dimensions of 91.6 x 56.8 x 19.6mm and weighs around 130g and can be easily fit into the pocket. The SD750 has a 3 x optical zoom having focal length equivalent to 35 – 105mm in 35mm format. Along with the optical zoom the camera also combines a 4 x digital zoom. The camera has a downside to it with no optical view finder but then again with the 3 inch LCD screen present its hard to fit a view finder and still keep the shape of the camera intact. SD750 does have a histogram available.

The SD750 provides good quality pictures with sharpness and focused maintained irrespective of conditions. Outdoor photos provide good level of detailing of subjects and focus is maintained even in the edges. Colours produced have a rich and vibrant feel to them. Even indoor shots come out well with subjects properly focused and it copes well with dim light situations. Pictures taken in Digital macro mode provides good balance of colours. The ISO modes work well but as one might expect noise interference causes that some amount of distortion. ISO 400 has fair amount of noise involved and as incase of most cameras the ISO 1600 level should be left alone as much as possible. Images can be stored in the following resolutions; 3072 x 2304, 3072 x 1728, 2592 x 1944, 2048 x 1536, 1600 x 1200 and 640 x 480. Images can be compressed into three forms which are Superfine, Fine and Normal, then stored in JPEG format.

The exposure control is automatic with the user having an option to reduce it or increase it with 2.0 EV of exposure compensation in 1/3 EV steps. This helps adjusting to various lighting conditions. The shooting modes in the SD750 are Auto, manual, digital macro, portrait, night snapshot, color accent, color swap and special scene modes. There are quiet a few special scene modes available for the user to choose from which includes Portrait, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Aquarium and Underwater. To help users in low light conditions a number of ISO settings are made available. The ISO options range between ISO 80 to ISO 1600 along with Auto and high ISO auto. The shutter speed varies between 15 to 1/1,500 seconds. The SD750 has a built in flash and the flash strength is 0.5 – 3.5 m at wide-angle and 0.5 – 2.0 m at telephoto. If more power is required then external flash can be attached aswell. The various white balance options that the photographer can use are Auto, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, fluorescent H and custom. There are various metering modes in the SD750; they are Evaluative (linked to Face Detection AF frame), Center-weighted average and Spot (center). The photo effects that could be used are Vivid, Neutral, Sepia, Black & White, Positive Film, Lighter Skin Tone, Darker Skin Tone, Vivid Blue, Vivid Green, Vivid Red and Custom Color.

Movies are recorded in AVI format and camera also records sound. In the SD750 movies can be stored having size of 4GB thus allowing users to record up to 32 minutes at a resolution of  640 x 480 having speed of 30 frames per second. The camera also has resolutions of 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 made available and provides a choice of speed between 30 frames per second and 15 frames per second. Sound memos can be attached to a particular picture having a maximum time of 60 seconds. Self timer can delay pictures up to a maximum time of 10seconds or any custom time can also be provided aswell.

The SD750 makes use of Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery NB-4L for power. The Different language options present in the camera are English, German, French, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Chinese (traditional), Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, Korean, Greek, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Turkish, Thai, Arabic, Ukrainian and Romanian. The device can be attached to computers, television sets and PictBridge printers.

In spite of a couple of flaws here and there the SD750 is surely looking like a success story in the making. Its stylish looks and good picture quality makes the SD750 one best cameras available in the market.
