The CANON POWERSHOT A 590 was launched in the market after A510 and A520 and A540. These three models have been replaced by the CANON A540 and A590.

The CANON A590 has an 8 megapixel camera with 4x optical zoom. Thus this camera is better than the other ones. The pictures are displayed on the 3 inch LCD display with 85000 pixels and the results are great. There are provisions for editing and retouching of the pictures. There is a new function of face brightening which brightens up the faces of the people whose picture has been clicked. In the normal camera the brightness can be increased but of the entire picture and not only the face. So this is an amazing feature in the CANON POWERSHOT A590. This is also present in the CANON A540.

The CANON A590 Dimensions are 90.4 x 64.0 x 43.2mm (l x b x h). The Camera weighs approx 198 grams which is light while holding and thus it is easier to click pictures. The CANON A590 has a USB 2.0 high speed connector with PTP i.e. Picture Transfer Protocol with which you can transfer the pictures to the computer. There are different playback modes in the Canon A590. They are Single (histogram displayable), Index (9 thumbnail images), Magnified (approx. 10x (max.) in LCD monitor, advance or reverse through magnified images possible), Auto play, Sound memos (up to 60 sec.) or Movie.

The CANON A590 records images in JPEG and movies in AVI format. It also has options for compressing the files. The options are superfine, fine and normal. The data on the camera is stored in the inbuilt memory which is a mere 30 – 40 MB. The memory can be extended by inserting a SD or MMC i.e. Multi Media Card. There is also self timer on the camera which delays the shutter release by 2 to 10 seconds.

The CANON A590 ISO speed is from 80 – 3200. The CANON A series has a DIGIC II processor which increases the speed of the camera startup, clicking pictures and playback. Thus the camera is very efficient. The DIGIC II processor consumes 35% less power than the previous DIGIC chip which increases the battery efficiency of the camera. The CANON A590 is also powered by two AA size rechargeable Ni-mh batteries which is common for the entire A series. The Ni-Mh batteries last for approx 300 pictures.
