Canon XTI
The Canon digital XTI is an upgraded version of the digital rebel XT. The Canon XTI sports a 2.5 inch LCD screen, a 10.1 mega pixel sensor and a new found dust cleaning system, the camera is also compatible with a wide range of accessories and around 50 lenses. When compared to the canon XT, the Canon XTI has a better grip, improved interface and its folders can hold up to 9,999 images. The 5” x 3.7” x 2.6” camera which weighs about two pounds has a smooth black, satin like body, which gives the plastic a metal like look. It is also available in a silver body. A USB cable is included with the camera.
The camera is almost always ready to take pictures when you want, it can take photographs at the rate of 3/second, but takes a little more time to save the photos. The camera also has a 2.5” LCD screen with 230,000 pixels and seven levels of brightness. A second rear LCD has been very thoughtfully been eliminated in this camera, making all of the information available on the 2.5” screen. Exposure modes such as shutter priority, aperture priority, depth-of-field AE, Programmed AE with modes for macro, portrait, sports, landscape and night scene are available on the camera. The camera sports a built in pop up flash with red eye reduction. The maximum flash speed offered is 1/200th. The shutter speed can be adjusted from 30 to ¼,000 seconds. The print and share button on the camera ensures quick transfer and printing of the photographs, this feature eliminates the need for a card reader. A 4GB or 8 GB card would be sufficient in the camera for the images are relatively larger at 3888 x 2592 pixels, where each image would occupy a 10MB space.
The Canon XTI has a well hyped 10.1 mega pixel sensor, which enables the photographer to make large prints [16 x 20”] even after a reasonable amount of cropping. The camera also boasts of a certain dust elimination accessory that shakes the dust off the sensor’s cover glass with the help of an ultra sonic vibration, the camera can be set to use this feature automatically as and when the camera is switched on and off. There is also this feature called dust delete data which allows the user to eliminate the dust recorded on the sensor from every shot with help of the DDP software. The only problem with the dust delete data is that there is usually no dust to eliminate after all dust has already been dust off by the ultra sonic vibrations. The Canon XTI runs on Lithium-ion batteries, which needs to be charged after every active day of photography and can take 300-500 shots per charging. A battery charger is also included in the kit which can be directly plugged into a wall socket.
On the whole the Canon XTI is an easy to use camera. The dust eliminating option would come in handy for out door photography in countries like India. This camera would attract consumers with a fixed budget and can also prove to be a reliable back up for the professional photographers.
