So the additional cost of the memory card has to be counted while you think of purchasing this camera.

The Samsung ES55 has other features like Dual Image Stabilization which is a much expected feature from all of the Samsung cameras so nothing great about it. The Samsung ES55 takes less than 2 seconds to start. The processor installed on the camera is quiet fast. The camera is a very good option for the beginners and a good point and shoot camera.

The Samsung ES55 is available at a price of Rs.6500/- approx. There are no great features nor is the price very high. The camera is an extremely cheap one and a really good option for all the beginners.

Basically the Samsung D85 is an 8.2 mega pixel camera which allows you to take sharp image and detailed photos. The 2.5″ LCD screen is bright and clear for capturing photos and then viewing them. Photo generated is good in terms of displaying on the camera and also when printed out. However with all its good photo taking ability its downside comes with its battery life and shutter delay.

Over the years Samsung has developed cameras with impressive looks and the Samsung D85 is no exception. Its silver grey sleek rounded design is sure make you look at it twice. The top of the camera is comprised of the dial mode, shutter button, power button and speaker. The Samsung D85 boosts an impressive 38/190mm lens. The USB/AV connection terminal and a DC input connection port is present behind a small covered door which can be opened and closed with ease. At the back of the camera lies all the other buttons such as zoom button, E effects button, delete button, Self-timer button, Macro button, play & pause button and the menu/OK button in a very neatly compiled fashion.

The 2.5″ LCD screen provides the photographer with a lot of information which if not preferred can be ignored and still take a good photo. The LCD screen provides information such as the battery meter and number of photos that can be taken. One can compose the images using the LCD monitor but the camera does lack in the view finder department. The memory capacity depends upon the type of shooting condition. The dial mode on the top of the camera controls the different recording modes which are Auto, Program and Manual. If one wants to have full control over things like shutter speed and aperture value then manual mode allows you that freedom. Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) mode helps dealing with shakes while taking images and during dim conditions. The D85 also has a night mode and portrait mode which helps taking pictures during darkness and to take a quick picture respectively. One can also take video if required by going to the video mode and the maximum time of the video would depend upon the amount of memory available. The macro mode allows you to take pictures within 40cm (Wide zoom) or 50cm (Tele zoom) and a 10cm super macro range is something that the D85 can boost over the other cameras of the same price range. The flash off mode is mainly used during low light conditions and the auto focus system might falter to some extent while shooting objects in little contrast, highly reflective or shiny surfaces, high speed subjects, very bright or dark backgrounds. But the place where the D85 falls flat the most is during night photography. The shutter release is slow and nearly impossible to obtain the perfect moment, sometimes the photo produced is not the same that you might have framed.

The video mode and voice recording mode is not outstanding in more than one way. The time of the video mostly depends upon the amount of memory available and audio recording can be done up to10 hours. Still images can have voice added to them up to 10 seconds per image. The image quality as you might have guessed is not great and it also affects the battery life

The Samsung D85 does not come with a memory card and it needs to be bought separately. D85 comes with a 2 AA sized batteries which will surely let you down because it is hard enough to take as minimum as a dozen images with the battery meter nearly over. This is surely the place where D85 completely looses its shine which might still have been saved if it was designed with a rechargeable battery.

If you are looking for good images and sharp features and don’t really care about the battery life then Samsung D85 might just be the one for you.

This surely is one camera which seems to be a winner all the way. A reasonable price 8.1 mega pixel resolution, a 5x optical zoom, 2.5 inch LCD and manual exposure modes are some of its features which makes Samsung S850 a sure hit among the masses. A design which would suit your holding ability with ease, the S850 is a small portable camera which easily be carried around from one place to another.

The S850 lacks optical viewfinder so the 2.5 inch LCD is used to preview the pictures taken. The LCD screen has an impressive resolution, with 230K pixels. The refresh rate of the screen and viewing angle is good to provide a soothing viewing experience. Depending upon the light the screen adjusts by gaining up and down thus allowing the viewing of the LCD screen without many problems.

The camera has a 5 x optical zoom and a 35 mm equivalent focal length of 38-190mm with a max aperture of f2.8 at wide angle and f4.4 at telephoto. Objects as near as 80cm can be pictured though the normal focus mode at wide angle and telephoto while in macro mode at wide angle 10-80 cm is the focus range and 50-80 cm for telephoto. There is also an auto macro mode which has a range of 10cm – infinity and telephoto focus of 50cm – infinity. Auto, auto with red-eye reduction, fill flash (always on), slow sync, and flash off are the variety of flash modes available in the S850. The Samsung S850 supports SD, MMC, and SDHC memory and comes with 20 MB of internal memory. SD and MMC have a capacity of 2 GB and SDHC cards will work up to 4 GB.

JPEG for pictures AVI (MPEG-4) for movies and WAV for audio are the formats in which different files are stored. The S850 comes with a multi connector which allows USB connection and AV out. The camera supports 2 AA batteries and there’s a connector for 3.3V DC input. No optical or mechanical image stabilization but the S850 does have an Advanced Shake Reduction, which is an ISO boosting mode that increases the shutter speed thus intern improving the quality of shots taken in motion. Though the ASR is not the most effective at times but the Wise shot deep in the ASR mode menu does make it look better. Through Wise shot the photographer takes two photos, one with ASR and one with flash thus providing a choice between the two photos taken.

The start-up time for a S850 is 2.1 seconds and the camera takes another 2.1 second between every shot. The time can go as high as 3.2 seconds if the onboard flash is on. The shutter has a faster rate, 1 second for low-conditions and 0.5 for high while the burst mode has the ability to take 1 frame per second.

We can capture movies at 800×592 at 20fps or 15fps; 720×480 at 20fps or 15fps; 640×480 at 30 fps, 20fps or 15 fps; and 320×240 at 30 fps, 20fps or 15fps in a Samsung S850. The length of the movie depends upon the storage space available. The successive recording option allows stopping of camera recoding for sometime and then again start recording in the same file. We can also make use of the optical zoom while recording and to ensure that one does not hear the working of the motor during playback the audio of the movie is muted while the zoom motor is running.

If the photographer wants he or she can adjust the ISO by selecting from ISO 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, or 1600 or else the camera can also be kept in full automatic mode. The image quality is satisfactory but in no way great. Colours seem saturated, and dose not look natural enough. Look a bit in detail and the photo looks a bit hazy. The tendency to under-expose is something this camera can be associated with. Decent results are obtained in Lens distortion – barrel distortion at wide angle and pincushion distortion at telephoto.

So to sum it all up if you are looking for a camera with quality construction, stylish design, user-friendly controls and manual exposure modes then you might want to look at the Samsung S850 but it lacks in the one area which it is truly meant for image quality.
