Looking at the most important aspect of a camera, the images A400 provides might leave you with a lot to be desired. Even if we take into consideration the A400 comes at an extremely low price still the quality of photographs produced should be better. The outdoor shots suffer from lack of focus; lose of detailing of the subject being pictured and purple fringing. The colours produced by the A400 are better as compared to what it does with the outdoor shots. They are natural, vibrant and the colour balance is maintained properly all throughout the pictures. When taking shots indoors the problem remains the same with lack of focusing being the main culprit for the pictures not looking as one might want it to look. In low light conditions as you might expect the camera struggles to deal with the situation resulting in lack of ability to pick out the subject and focus on it. But most cameras at this price range struggles in such situations so A400 can be forgiven for not being able to provide the perfect picture in such conditions. The place where the A400 works the best as compared to its price is the macro mode. It possibly works better than what it should, providing sharp and clear pictures. Looking at the ISO handling capacity of the A400 it works well and better than most of its direct competitors although the picture might not be brilliant at ISO 400 but still acceptable. It provides 3 ISO options to the user which includes ISO 100, 200 and 400. The various resolutions available for storing pictures in the A400 are 2304 x 1728, 2304 x 153, 1600 X 1200, 1280 x 960 and 640 X 480.

The Shutter speed varies between 2 seconds to 1/1500 seconds depending on the exposure mode. On an average the A400 can take a single photo in 0.50 seconds and takes around 15 seconds for five consecutive photos. The camera comes with a built in flash having a maximum range of 3.1m when zoom lens is not in use and this decreases to 2m when zoom is turned on. The various flash modes available are Auto, Red-eye Reduction, Forced Flash, Suppressed Flash, Slow Synchro, Red-eye Reduction + Slow Synchro. The user is also provided with various scenic modes which include Portrait, Landscape, Sports and Night Scene to obtain the best possible photographs the camera can provide. The self timer can delay the pictures by 10 seconds maximum. The white balance options present are Fine, Shade, Fluorescent light (Daylight), Fluorescent light (Warm White), Fluorescent light (Cool White) and Incandescent light.

The A400 can capture movies but the corresponding sound is not captured and zoom cannot be used. As expected two resolutions are available for capturing videos and the time of the videos are dependent on the resolution choosen. The 320 x 240 resolution allows movies to be recorded for 1 minute and the 160 x 120 resolution can record movies up to 4 minutes. The various camera terminals available are USB 1.1, 3 volt power-input socket and Video-out for connecting the camera to computers, printers and PictBridge compatible printers. It makes use of 2 AA batteries and has 12MB of internal memory available. The A400 is compatible with xD-picture cards which range between 16MB to 1GB.

Basically to sum it all up the A400 has decent picture quality but its the ease of use that makes it a desirable camera. This surely is one of the simplest digital cameras currently available in the market and lets not forget you can get this at an extremely affordable price.
