Nikon D2X

The Nikon D2X can be described physically as big and heavy. But if one can handle the weight issue in the D2X he would be rewarded with some stunning picture taking qualities of the camera. If you are looking for comfort while taking pictures then this camera is not meant for you.

Nikon D2X 

The camera comes with a good grip both in front and back but with dimensions of 158 x 150 x 86 mm and weighing a massive 1070 g without batteries it can become stressful for being carried around from one place to another. Looking at the control setting in the D2X, it is easily accessible and one can navigate through the various options in the camera without having to get much into details. The buttons are well marked and there are few nested functions present in the D2X. This has a 2.5 inch TFT LCD monitor with Backlight or brightness adjustment options. The LCD screen produces good vibrant colours and the images taken have good sharpness when viewed on the LCD. Along with the LCD it also has an Optical-type fixed eye-level pentaprism view finder which provides 100% frame coverage. The Viewfinder magnification is approximately 0.86x and a Built-in diopter adjustment feature is also present.

Nikon D2X

One of the main features of the D2X is its dual-resolution nature. This allows the photographer to use a high resolution of 12.21 mega pixels which allows the camera to provide 20 JPEG shots @ five frames per second or use the 6.87 mega pixel speed demon through which the camera can take up to 34 JPEGs @ eight frames per second. The image quality in the D2X is top notch with the pictures coming out sharp and focused whatever be the condition. Colours are vibrant and have a natural feel to them. ISO sensitivities although limited as compared some of the other cameras available in the market performs well. The noise interference while using various ISO settings is kept to a minimum. In all, the images produced by the D2X are one of its biggest highlight and something the camera is truly meant for.

Nikon D2X

The various AF modes present are Single Area AF, Dynamic AF with Focus Tracking and Lock-on, Closest Subject Priority Dynamic AF and Group Dynamic AF. The different exposure modes in the D2X are Program Auto [P] – flexible program possible, Shutter-Priority Auto [S], Aperture-Priority Auto [A] and Manual [M]. The metering options in the camera are 3D Color Matrix, Center-Weighted and Spot. The ISO sensitivities range from ISO 100 – 800 and the electromagnetically controlled vertical-travel Focal-plane shutter has speed ranging between 30 and 1/8000 seconds. The Flash X-Sync can reach up to 1/250 seconds. The view finder provides information such as Focus indications, Shutter speed, Aperture, Exposure mode, Metering system, Shutter speed lock, Aperture lock, AE lock, Bracketing indicator, Electronic analogue display, Frame counter, Ready-light, ISO sensitivity, White balance, Image size / quality, Eleven sets of focus brackets (area) and High speed cropped area. The shooting modes in the D2X are Single, Continuous High [CH] Full image – 5 fps, Continuous High [CH] High speed cropped image – 8 fps, Continuous Low [CL] Full image – 1 to 4 fps (custom), Continuous Low [CL] High speed cropped image – 1 to 7 fps (custom), Buffer size: Full image 15 NEF, High speed cropped image 26 NEF, Self-Timer (programmable) and Interval timer (Time-lapse).

Nikon D2X

When the full image option is used then images are stored in 3 resolutions, 4288 x 2848 [L], 3216 x 2136 [M] and 2144 x 1424 [S]. In high speed cropped the resolutions available are 3216 x 2136 [L], 2400 x 1600 [M] and 1600 x 1064 [S]. The file formats that are used to store images in the D2X are NEF (12-bit RAW), NEF + JPEG, JPEG (EXIF 2.2) and TIFF (RGB). The camera has a self timer which delays pictures up to 20 seconds. The user also has the option of adding Voice memos for a maximum time limit of 60 seconds. The different connectivity in the D2X are USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed) Mini-B connector, Video out, Remote control 10-pin and PC Sync flash terminal. It is compatible with Compact Flash Type I or II, Micro drive, FAT 12/16 and FAT 32. The camera uses Lithium-Ion EN-EL4 battery for power.

Overall the D2X is a bit on the heavier side of things but it would still make a true photographer happy with its extensive yet simple feature list and brilliant picture taking ability.
