Nikon P50

Nikon P50 is a digital camera from the Coolpix series of Nikon. It is a lightweight camera targeted at consumers who use camera to capture the special moments in day-to-day life. Nikon P50 is built aesthetically and is quite easy to grip and handle due to its rubber coating. This compact camera measures 94.5 x 66 x 44 mm and weighs approximately about 160 gm.

Nikon P50 has a 4.7-17.0mm lens that provides an optical zoom of 3.6x. The camera gives good quality resolution pictures with its 8.1 megapixel sensors. Apart from the optical zoom it also has a digital zoom of 4x that allow the user to view minute details in the photograph. It also as a 2.4-inch TFT monitor with 1,15,000 pixels to allow the user preview pictures before and after they are shot. To shoot in dark conditions the camera has in built flash having a range of 30cm to 4.0m, which is quite good. The flash can be manually put OFF whenever it is not required.

Nikon P50 comes loaded with features like red eye reduction and face priority. The red eye reduction attribute removes a annoying red spots often observed on eye retina due to excessive flash. The face priority mode feature recognises human faces from the scene, which is then used to automatically focus them. This feature is useful while taking portrait or close up pictures. The pictures can be clicked in various sizes like 3264 x 2448, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480 and so on. Movies can also be recorded with Nikon P50 at the rate of 1.3 frames per second. If recorded in smaller size (640 x 480 pixels), speed of 30 frames per second can be achieved. The files are saved in one of the following formats- JPEG Exif 2.2, DCF and DPOF1.1.

The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted from ISO 64 to ISO 2000. The shutter speed is 15-1/2000 seconds. To click pictures after a time delay Nikon P50 has an in-built self-timer option that can be customised from 2 seconds to 10 seconds. This feature is useful while clicking the photographs of entire group including the photographer. Pictures can be clicked in various modes like Portrait, Landscape, Sunset, Close Up, Party/Indoor and so on.

Nikon P50Nikon P50 can be connected to computer via the USB 2.0 interface cable to transfer the pictures and images at high speed. The pictures can be directly viewed on television set using the AV out port of the camera. The camera is compatible with SD cards, SDHC cards and MMC cards to increase its memory. It has an in-built memory of 58 MB. A pair of AA batteries is to be used to supply power to the camera. The quick availability of AA batteries almost anywhere around the globe rescues the user from hassles of recharging the batteries. An optional AC adapter kit is also available with Nikon P50. The pictures can be directly printed using PictBridge
or ImageLink.
