Olympus E-510

The Olympus E-510 succeeds the E-500 D-SLR. It is stylish, useful and has a variety of features that appeals the amateurs and the semi-professionals. With the new E-510, one can confidently take professional snaps with ease, clarity and control. It does not fail to deliver an impeccable performance as photographers can frame their composition in a better way. An enticing feature is that no costly stabilizer is required in each lens. This is because the camera has a built-in image stabilizer which is sensor shift based. It comes with a 10 Megapixel Live Preview or a Live MOS sensor on its HyperCrystal LCD screen which measures 2.5”/6.4cm. Undoubtedly, this offers high-quality detailed photography.

Picture quality is brought to a completely new level with a new image processing engine offering the best noise performance. Thus, one can experience improved shooting results. The threat of dust is eliminated with the introduction of Supersonic Wave Filter. It also protects against blur which occurs because of unwanted camera shake while working high magnifications or long exposure times. Auto-focusing can be done by just pressing the AEL button. One need not have the fear of missing a great shot, thanks to the excellent image processing speeds of 3 frame per second along with a 7 image RAW buffer in burst mode. The AF can be measured with just quickly flipping the mirror up and then down. The additional histogram function allows an accurate exposure control.

It features an array of manual settings along with 18 scene modes such as xD Panorama and Macro, which are easy to use. Adding another dimension to its creative features are the colour modes and black and white filters. To provide accessibility to all, there are 10 different languages plus 15 more for download. Speedy transferring of images can be done to a printer or a computer via a Hi-Speed USB. A long-life rechargeable battery comes along with it and it is compatible with almost all the E-system accessories. The model is based of the Four Thirds Standard. Specific needs of digital photography such as edge-to-edge colour, brightness and sharpness can be fulfilled by near tele-centric lenses which are optimized for this purpose.

A choice of data storage options is available with slots provided for the xD-Picture Card and Compact Flash cards. This enables the use of the xD Panorama scene program. It also features a bracketing function which gives a choice of snaps to the photographer, from which he can select the best. No doubt, the E-510 is a completely new model which targets a different sector of the market. It can be controlled automatically as well as manually.

Overall, the camera offers excellent image quality and great value for money. Redeye is no longer a problem. It offers advanced technology for superior quality and true-to-life colour reproduction. Its unprecedented accuracy ensures image sharpness. It is simple to control, convenient, comfortable and smartly designed. The system of lenses is not only comprehensive but also flexible. It comes with a wide variety of accessories and is a professional-grade camera. However, the battery charger included is slow, and there is no AC adapter or battery grip available. Also, memory cards don’t come along with it.
