While capturing picture stills has been a
developed since over a century, one of the major
developed that occurred in the world of
photography, apart from the digital cameras and
video recorders for films and televisions was
the camcorder. This is device is a combination
of being a camera and recorder. This is
primarily a consumer video recording device,
which is rather compact and easy to operate.
Amongst the earliest camcorders to be
manufactured were by the following companies:
JVC
Sony
Kodak
However, these camcorders used an analog
videotape. It was from he mid-1990s that
companies began manufacturing these cameras with
the digital video recorder. There was no more
need for the video tapes, as they were being
replaced by e compact video discs (VCD), and
then came in the digital video discs (DVD).
Prior to the digital cameras and camcorders were
the manually operated options. There the film
based still cameras and the betamax recorders.
The gadgets were rather large and bulky. It was
in 1982 that Sony launched the first
professional camcorder, which the company named,
Betcam. Then in 1983 the company launched the
Betamovie for consumers. These camcorders were
rather bulky in comparison to todays sleek
models, but they nonetheless marked an important
step towards the digital revolution.
Then in the 1990s, increasing
camera-manufacturing companies entered the arena
of camcorders. They were working towards outdo
each other in competition, finding more novel
means of recording better pictures and videos.
And that is when the digital gadgets began to
take the markets by a storm. Initially these
devices were rather expensive, but over the
years, price reductions and modified machines
have made them all the more poplar amongst
consumers. Today, this device is regarded as
something between a necessity and comfort,
depending on how much one spends of them.
