While technological advancements have proven
to be a boon, all over the world, yet there is a
section of the populace that is wary of the
developments and prefer to stick to the
traditional mechanisms. So, there are writers
around the world who prefer to use the
typewriter, rather than a computer to put their
manuscript together. Similarly there are
photographers – professionals and consumers –
who prefer the old analogue cameras to the new
age digital cameras.
This is because they feel that the disadvantages
of digital cameras should not be ignored. They
prefer to use the traditional camera options
that do not have such disadvantages. Listed here
are some negatives that go against the digital
picture capturing devices:
• Some photographer feel that the quality of
pictures on film is far more superior than those
produced by the digital options. This is because
of aspects such as resolutions and pixels.
• Size of picture is limited in digital cameras.
The size of print depends on the resolution
capacity of a camera. However, in the case of
film, a picture captured can be processed into
any size desired without concern of losing
picture quality
• Many feel that operating the digital cameras
can be rather complex because of the various
buttons and options.
• The battery life of the cameras are limited
and need constant charging. Most photographers
need to carry a spare battery or then the
charger when out on long assignments. And on the
outdoors one cannot really find an electricity
source for charging the battery.
• Photographs clicked on film is far more
admissible as proof in court, if needed. This is
because one cannot easily manipulate the picture
on film, which can be easily done with digital
images.
• Most digital cameras have a limited dynamic
range. However, some of the latest fuji digital
cameras, such as Fuji's Super CCD, has been able
to address this problem.
• According to some photographer editing and
post-processing of RAW files end up taking
longer than the 35mm film.
• Downloading a number of images onto a computer
ends up taking valuable shooting time
