One of the major advancements in technology is the digital camera. While the original film cameras depended on chemical and mechanical process, the digital ones have a built-in computer. And this cameras record the images electronically.

How do digital cameras work? This is one question that leaves many stunned by the technological advancements of this gadget. At the base the digital camera records the picture and stores it in the form of bits and bytes. Hence, the digital image produced is a strong of 1s and 0s, which represent the tiny colored dots, also known as pixels.

Operating the digital camera is like operating any of the conventional photographing gadgets. Like the conventional counterparts, the digital gadget has a a series of lenses, which focus light in order to create an image of the scene. However, instead of focusing this light onto a film, it is focused onto a semiconductor device. This device records the light entering electronically. The computer installed inside breaks the electronic information down into what is known as digital data.

Most digital cameras have an image sensor, which is a charge coupled device (CCD). However, there are some cameras that use a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology as an alternative device.
