Sony Cyber Shot DSC H3
Sony has packed an optically-stabilized Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10x optical zoom lens and 8-megapixel imager into a compact body in its new DSC-H3 Cyber-shot camera. Small and light for a long-zoom camera, the H3 is well designed.
The Cyber-Shot DSC-H3 brings plenty of technology to the table with Super-Steady shot optical stabilization, Face-Detection and Sony’s Dynamic Range Optimizer. In a bid to speed up response whilst photographing fast-moving subjects, Advanced Sports Shooting mode with predictive AF is here too.
Finally, if the camera’s 2.5″ monitor isn’t quite big enough for your tastes, there is also HDTV output at full 1080 line resolution so expect the imminent return of post-vacation slide shows. For sports, for travel or simply having fun with friends and family – the Sony Cyber-shot H3 from Sony packs big camera features into its ultra-compact body at a price that’s simply irresistible. The beautifully-styled Sony H3 is the smallest ever Cyber-shot featuring a Carl Zeiss 10x zoom lens (38-380mm equivalent; F3.5-4.4).
The powerful optical zoom pulls distant subjects closer with amazing clarity. Its wide range also broadens the scope of framing options for greater creative possibilities – from expansive landscapes and intimate portraits to dynamic nature shots and sporting scenes. Magnification is boosted further still by the 17x HD Smart Zoom (in 16:9 shooting mode) for powerful telephoto images. Those images can be enjoyed with stunning quality on a large HD-Ready television. Weighing only 246 grams and measuring 106.0mm (w) x 68.5mm (h) x 47.5mm (d), you’ll find the Sony Cyber shot H3 is compact and light enough to carry with you everywhere.
With a resolution of 8.1 effective megapixels, the Sony Cyber shot DSC-H3 delivers all the picture quality you’d expect from the Cyber-shot brand. The compact, easy-to-use Face Detection can take great pictures. Powered by the camera’s super-responsive BIONZ image processor, Face Detection automatically adjusts exposure, flash and other settings. Enhanced autofocus performance and advanced eye detection ensure beautiful sharp portraits with natural skin tones – even at high zoom settings, in low light or even with moving subjects.
The Sony H3 also adjusts exposure and contrast using the Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO), analyzing each image for balanced, natural-looking results, thus giving amazing picture quality. Double Anti-Blur technology reduces camera shake for clear and bright images when shooting conditions are not all that good. Super Steady Shot image stabilization is coupled with high sensitivity (ISO 3200) for blur-free, atmospheric results without flash. When you’re shooting indoors or in low light at high ISO settings, Sony Clear RAW NR noise reduction suppresses colour and luminance noise for natural results and good results.
The Sony Cyber shot DSC-H3 is easy to use with on-screen function guides and a handy ‘home’ button for quick, fuss-free navigation. As a quality digital camera for the everyday shooter, the Sony H3 offers a lot. A 10x zoom in a small package is always great; and it comes with the image stabilization it needs to get the long shots. Face detection and lots of ISO headroom mean you’ll be able to take better photos of friends and family with and without flash in more places.
Though there are a few foibles that might not make the Sony H3 for you in particular, I still see the Sony H3 as a great camera.
