The FD73 is an easy to use digital camera. The ground breaking FD73 makes digital photography simpler and more enjoyable by eliminating the use of adaptors, cables and drivers.
The camera has a weight of 0.5 kg. The dimensions are 13.8 cm x 6.2 cm x 10.5 cm (w x d x h). The FD73 has a rectangular shape which allows the photographer to hold the camera easily while shooting. The camera has a nice gripping area on the right hand side thus enabling the photographer to hold the camera in one hand and shoot. The camera has a plastic body and metallic grey enclosed colour.
The FD73 has resolution of 0.35 Mega pixels and has colour support. The FD73 comes equipped with CCD type optical sensor. There is an inbuilt 2.5 inch LCD screen present which allows pictures to be seen immediately after they are taken. The total numbers of pixels present are 350,000 pixels with 330,000 pixels comprising the effective sensor resolution. The optical sensor size in the FD73 is 1/4" and one can also make use of lighting sensitivity ISO 100 while taking pictures in dark conditions.
The various shooting modes present are Sunset & Moon, landscape, portrait mode, pan-focus, and beach/snow and sports mode. Various special effects can also be applied such as Solarisation, Black & White, Sepia and Negative Art. Images taken by the FD73 are stored in JPEG or BMP format. One can view the vibrant 24-bit colour images on the LCD screen. The camera is compatible with 3.5" 1.44 MB floppy. The number of photos that can be stored on a single floppy depends upon the resolution and the format in use. With the Standard JPEG 640 x 480 one can store up to 40 images on a 1.44MB floppy disk. This number falls to half when we make use of Fine JPEG 640 x 480. The downfall continues with the use of BMP 640 x 480, with only one image being stored when this resolution and format is used. One can also make use of Standard JPEG 320 x 240 which allows you to store up to 35 images on a 1.44MB floppy disk. Fine JPEG 320 x 240 is the last resolution available and the user can store up to 15 images.
Images produced are excellent. Outdoors shots are sharp and focus is maintained well even in the edges. The colours produced are vibrant and natural. There is very little subject detail loss and even indoor shots taken in low light conditions come out well. The inbuilt flash and ISO 100 helps the camera while shooting in dim light. Overall the images produced are razor sharp but one has got to say the camera performs best when used outdoors rather than indoors.
The camera comes equipped with a Built-in flash and the various flash modes present are Fill-in mode, auto mode and flash OFF mode. The built-in flash has a range of 0.5 m to 2.5 m.
